Solomon Lechesa Tsenoli is the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

Biography

Lechesa Tsenoli is a South African politician. He is the current Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly in the 6th Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. He has served over twenty-five years in the Legislative sector and the Executive.

Tsenoli has participated in political activism in communities, youth, and civic organizations. In October 2011, he assumed office as the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform. 

From July 2013 to May 2014, he was Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

Early Life

Lechesa Tsenoli was born in Bultfontein in the Free State province. He attended Bodibeng High School in Kroonstad.

Education

Tsenoli loves knowledge and qualifies for adult education, public policy, and facilitation. He studied the International Program of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland on Organization and Systems Development. 

The politician is a student in leadership, organizational and executive coaching. He is also a Trauma Release Exercise Certification Trainee.

Tsenoli attended a program of instruction for Lawyers at Harvard University. He studied Public Policy Management at the University of Western Cape. He obtained a Certificate in Adult Education from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Lechesa studied Development Planning for Community Leaders at the University of the Witwatersrand. 

Career

Tsenoli is the founding National Deputy President of the South African National Civics Organisation. He later became President of the Organization.

The politician served as the Publicity Secretary of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Natal. He is a member of the African National Congress (ANC). He is also a member of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP).

Mr. Tsenoli became a member of the board of directors of the Isandla Institute in 2009 and served until 2013. Other organizations he was a member of were; the Institute of Local Government, National Housing Corporation, and Transitional National Development Trust.

The renowned politician served as a member of the Joint Rent Action Committee in 1983. He was also a member of the Masibonesane Lamontville Youth Organization in 1981. He was a founding member of the Durban Civic Forum.

Lechesa was the Deputy Minister for Rural Development and Land Reform of the Republic of South Africa (2011-2013).

Parliament

Lechesa Tsenoli has been in the parliament for over 29 years. He became a Member of Parliament in 1994 and has served in the following committees:

  • Ad Hoc Committee in Represented Political Parties
  • Special Ministerial Committee on the Transformation of the Independent Development Trust (IDT)

  • Special Ministerial Committee on Removing Obstacles to Housing Delivery

Personal life

In July 2020, following the death of Amos Komeni due to Covid-19, some thought it was Tsenoli who had died. Amos was a project administrator. 

Tsenoli is alive and well and devises all means to ensure the rumor doesn’t become a reality. Reacting to the experience, Tsenoli wrote.

“What I, at least did not expect, is that I would be assumed to have died myself as a result of a misunderstanding.”
