Owethu Ngubane (born 19 April 2002) is a South African netball player. She represents the University of Johannesburg Netball Team and SPAR Proteas.
The netball player is among those set for the World Cup in Cape Town from 28 July. She is the latest University of Johannesburg youngster to make her first appearance for SPAR Proteas in the 2023 Netball Quad Series.

Early life
Owethu Ngubane was born on 19 April 2002 in Port Elizabeth, in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, to her mother, Ntombifuthi Ngubane.
Her journey in netball started when her grade 4 teacher made her join the school team. Her height interested the teacher, who thought Ngubane deserved to play. Since then, she has not stopped playing.
Education
Owethu Ngubane attended Allingham Primary School. She is completing her Diploma at the University of Johannesburg.
Career
Owethu has represented many provincial teams in KwaZulu Natal. In 2021, she played for the KwaZulu Natal Kingdom Stars in the Telkom Netball League.
At the 2023 Netball Quad Series, she replaced Potgieter, who developed knee injuries.
Ngubane is not a newbie in the international netball space. She is among the young netball players added to the senior squad. Other UJ student-athletes include Nomfundo Mngomezulu and Boitumelo Mahloko.
In 2022, she received a silver medal with South Africa’s FAST 5 team. She has played for the national Under-21 side, Baby Proteas. She represented South Africa at the Confederation of Universities and Caolleges Sports Association (CUCSA) held in Malawi.
Among her highlights is being in the squad that dethroned the Gauteng Jaguars from the Telkom Netball League throne.
