Who is Jalal Arabi?

Alhaji Jalal Ahmad Arabi is a Graduate of Law and former Secretary to the state house who hails from the Northern part of Nigeria. On October 2023, President Tinubu approved his appointment to serve as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON. It stands for National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and he is to assume office on October 18, 2023, for a period of 4 years.

Ahmad originates from Gombe State, although he was born in Jos, Plateau State in Nigeria. He obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1973 in Islamiyya School which he started in 1967.

Arabi continued his education at Government Secondary School that same year and completed his Secondary education in 1978. Jamal continued his education at the University of Jos, where he attained a Law Degree, LLB(Hons), he also bagged his BL in 1984 from the Council of Legal Education, Lagos.

The Graduate of Law began his career at the Ministry of Justice, Bauch, Bauchi State in 1985. In May 1993, Jalal Arabi assumed the role of Legal Adviser to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). This was at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

In addition to his regular duties, he has undertaken various additional roles in service to his country over the years. He served as a member of the Inter-Agency Committee responsible for the final relocation and settlement of public officers in Abuja in 1993.

The law graduate also Contributed as a member of the Inter-Ministerial Committee. It was involved in drafting the Terms of Reference and Procedures for various ad-hoc constitutional bodies.

He contributed to bodies such as the Transition Committee and Constitutional Conference Committee in 1994. He was also a part of the Inter-Agency Committee dedicated to the reorganization and repositioning of trade unions and affiliate associations in 1994.

In January 2003, he transitioned to the Ministry of Defence, as Deputy Director of Parastatals and Special Services. Subsequently, in June 2007, he advanced his career to become the State House Counsel.

In November 2015, he was appointed to the post of Permanent Secretary by President Muhammadu Buhari. He is currently the NAHCON Chairman and Chief Executive Officer after his appointment by President Tinubu.
