Joe Biden was one of the youngest senators in US history at the time of his election, and one of the oldest currently in the Senate at the time of his resignation .

So just how rich is Joe Biden? Over the course of his long career, sources estimate that Joe has amassed a net worth of $10 million, earned through political office, and previous to that as a lawyer.

Joe Biden Net Worth $10 Million

While he may not have as high a net worth as some rock stars and actors, there are certainly few people in the world who could match Joe Biden’s political influence. As Biden’s father, Joe Biden Sr., struggled to find employ in and around Scranton, the Biden family moved to Delaware – and that is where Joe spent most of his youth and adolescence. Even as far back as high school, Joe Biden had all the marks of a future leader, often finding himself in leadership positions among the student body. Though his academic performance tended more towards average than anything else, Biden managed to graduate from the University of Delaware with a BA and double major in history and political science, and then with a JD from the Syracuse University College of Law in 1968 – thanks in large part to his impressive memory, which allowed the future Vice-President to absorb large amounts of information in a short space of time.

By 1969, Joe Biden was already a public defender in Wilmington, Delaware, and starting to become involved in politics. That year, Biden was elected into the New Castle County Council, balancing his law career – at the time Biden’s main means of making a living, and the primary source of his earliest net worth – with the responsibilities of his office. In 1972, Joe Biden became one of the youngest senators ever elected into the US Senate when, against all odds, he won the election against the veteran Republican candidate J. Caleb Boggs. Despite a tragedy in the family when Biden’s wife, Neilia Biden, passed away in a traffic accident in 1972, Joe Biden assumed his position in the Senate. Biden would stay there for over thirty years, becoming one of America’s longest-serving and best-known senators over the course of his career, until finally resigning in 2009 to be sworn in as the Vice-President. His net worth rose steadily if unspectacularly during this long period in politics.

Joe Biden has enjoyed a long and successful political career, having spent over thirty years in the Senate thanks to being re-elected on six occasions. Currently one of the leading figures in US politics alongside President Barack Obama, Biden has built his wealth and influence on his lengthy career as a politician, and is now serving a second term as Vice-President,  so Biden remains an active politician at the highest level of the US Government.

In his personal life, Joe Biden’s first wife Neilia Hunter (1966-72) and their daughter were killed in a traffic accident. Biden subsequently married Jill Jacobs in 1977 – they have a daughter, and two sons from Joe’s first marriage.
