Kayode Egbetokun, born on September 4, 1964, hails from the Egbado South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria.
He is a distinguished law enforcement officer who has made significant contributions to the Nigerian Police Force throughout his career.
Egbetokun’s journey in the Nigeria Police Force began on March 3, 1990, when he joined as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Course 16. His educational qualifications reflect his commitment to both academic and professional growth.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Education (Honors) in Mathematics from the University of Lagos and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Engineering Analysis from the same institution. Furthermore, he has certifications in Electronic Data Processing and Computer Programming, all from the University of Lagos.
He pursued a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Lagos State University and a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Petroleum Economics from the Delta State University. To further expand his knowledge, Egbetokun obtained a Ph.D. in Peace and Security Studies from Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Throughout his career, Egbetokun has attended various courses and conferences, honing his skills and expertise. Notable among these are the Close Protection Course in the United Kingdom, the Squadron Commander Combat Ops Course at PMF Training College, the Advanced Detective Course at the Police Staff College in Jos, and the Intermediate Command Course and Strategic Leadership Course at the same institution.
In 2018, he participated in the Global Conference on Chemical Security and Emerging Threats held in Lyon, France. Egbetokun is a member of the Society for Peace and Security Practice and is recognized as a scholar in Peace and Security Studies.
Egbetokun has served in several commands, formations, and departments of the Nigerian Police Force, displaying exemplary dedication and leadership. From 1999 to 2005, he served as the Chief Security Officer to the Governor of Lagos State. He also commanded the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in the Lagos State Command from 2005 to 2007.
In addition, he held various positions such as Officer-in-Charge (O/C) of Anti-Fraud in the FCT Command in Abuja, CSP Admin in the Lagos State Command, and Area Commander in Osogbo, Osun State, and Gusau, Zamfara State. Egbetokun has also served as the Commandant of the Police Training School (PTS) and Deputy Commandant of the Police College, both in Ikeja, Lagos State.
He has held the prestigious position of Commissioner of Police in different departments, including Servicom at Force Headquarters in Abuja, Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) at Force Headquarters, Kwara State Command, and Admin Medical Faloma in Lagos State.
Prior to his current appointment, he served as the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja and later as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Force Criminal Investigations Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Kayode Egbetokun’s current posting is as the Acting Inspector General of Police, a position to which he was appointed by President Bola Tinubu, following the departure of Usman Baba, who was previously appointed as the Inspector General of Police by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Egbetokun enjoys various hobbies, including reading, playing table tennis, and recreational football. He is a dedicated sports enthusiast and follows the English Premier League and European Champions League, passionately supporting Chelsea. He is happily married and have children.
