Marciel Hopkins was born on 17 February 1993 to Annaline Hopkins and Charles. From the beginning, her mother has been her biggest supporter. Her father makes wine on the De Grendel wine farm near Cape Town.
Living a life of inspiration is what she wanted since her young days. In 2015 came her big break after she made it to the top 12 Miss South Africa finalists.
Education
Marciel Hopkins holds a degree in Drama from the University of Stellenbosch. She also obtained her Honours degree in Psychology.
Career
Hopkins played a student, a guest starring role, in season 1, episode 5 of the kykNET crime anthology series Die Boland Moorde in 2013.
In 2020, she took over from Leah as the new host of the kykNET dating reality show Boer Soek ‘n Vrou, a popular Afrikaans dating show.
In 2015, she dropped 14 kg for the Miss South Africa competition. She now works as a plus-size model. She also inspires women to love and embrace themselves.
Miss South Africa
The brunette lost 2st 2lbs (14kg) to contest for the Miss South Africa title. She performed well in the competition as one of the 12 finalists.
After leaving the competition, she gradually returned to her natural size fourteen shape. She was the bigger friend in high school who helped her slim friends work on the beauty pageant routines.
Losing weight wasn’t an easy one for her. She had to undergo intensive training and worked up to three hours daily. She was on a diet cutting out carbs, red meat, alcohol, sweets, and chocolate.
After her Miss South Africa journey in 2016, Marciel relaxed her stringent diet and fitness routine.
Personal Life
Marciel Hopkins married Handré Lourens during her Boland wedding on 9 April 2022. She took her hair back beautifully and had red lips and red nails.
The duo got engaged during her first season as presenter of the Afrikaans matchmaker series Boer Soek ’n Vrou. They got engaged at the 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa, Cape Town.
They got married on the exact day of the week Handré had asked her to be his girlfriend. She lives in the Western Cape.
